Ardley Studio is Complete!

Ardley Studio, Oakland, CA

The Ardley Studio project actually finished up a few months ago, but I’ve been really bad about keeping my blog updated!  That’s good, because it means I’m busy.

This project really was a great success.  For the first time, we were able to construct a stand alone structure from the ground up.  From a design standpoint, the studio tucks so neatly into the back corner of its site, integrating with the surrounding garden.  The redwood board and batten siding turned out beautifully.  The banks of windows and the skylight balance daylight perfectly.  And with the windows open, you feel almost like you’re outside.  Personally, I really like how it mixes a modern form with very traditional California materials.  The studio is used primarily as an office and makes for a very pleasant workspace.  After hours, however, impromptu garden parties have been known to take place, so it doubles as a garden pavilion and wine tasting room!

On the construction side, all of our subs did a great job!  We forged some new relationships on this project, but also brought back some people we’ve worked on projects with before.  And, as our clients told us: “It’s so much better than we expected!”  I took that statement to mean: “Rich, you exceeded our expectations!”
